Epic lead
You will join Swedbank to lead a team; and drive own initiatives in the Payments & Accounts area across Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Swedbank has the largest market share in the Payments space and is an important financial player across the Baltics as well as being a well loved brand and respected company to work for.
The Baltic Payment & Accounts area has grown rapidly during the past few years due to the importance of Payments and the heavy regulatory and technical landscape surrounding this area. During this time we have also changed our way of working to using the SAFe Agile framework. We have now decided to collect our existing Epic Owners; that are currently spread out in various teams, into one newly formed team of Epic Owners. This team will be responsible for driving various small to large initiatives (epics) in our area. As an Epic Lead, you will be responsible for leading and supporting this group of Epic Owners. In addition to your leadership responsibilities, you will also own and drive one or two key epics yourself. Epic Owners in the team will be a mixture of both Swedbank employees and consultants that are joining Swedbank for a shorter or longer period to support with particular epics.
As the organization evolves, the scope of the team and therefore this role may grow to also cover other areas.
One epic that we expect you will lead yourself as Enterprise Epic Owner, is our multi-year journey to modernize our international payment platform in the Baltics by migrating our international payment flows to an externally bought platform. We are in the middle of this project which we expect will end in 2027. It is not just an IT project but also a change in our way of working as we will be working with external vendor platforms which will require changes across different areas in our organisation.
The Epic Lead will report directly to the Head of Payments & Accounts Baltics and be a part of the Payments & Accounts Baltics management team.
In Swedbank you have the opportunity to:
- Lead and coach a team of Epic Owners to successfully deliver high-impact initiatives
- Ensure clear alignment between epics and product or strategic roadmaps
- Recruit new epic owners (employees or consultants) as needed
- Improve and evolve epic-related workflows and agile delivery practices to ensure most efficient way of working aligned with Swedbank expectations
- Contribute to scaling a healthy, value-focused delivery culture
- Support the growth of the function – including potentially managing additional roles as the organization evolves
- Lead own epics from start to finish so you also become an expert in our SAFe@Swedbank processes and practices to lead your team through example
- In the epic owner role you will co-ordinate many contributors from across our virtual organization and serve as an informal leader to manage cross-area stakeholder expectations, communication, escalations and supervision of prioritized epics
What is needed in this role:
- Experience of having led a team of project managers or similar is a strong benefit
- Strong facilitation and coaching skills
- Proven experience in leading large initiatives or programs in an agile delivery set up
- Strong skills and experience in driving results in a virtual cross-border organization
- Well familiar with scaled agile frameworks
- Ability to think strategically and act operationally
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Being able to adapt your communication to the audience and to interpret technical topics into business language
- Collaborative mindset and a passion for delivering real value to customers and the business
- Proficient in English, both spoken and written
- Academic degree in IT, Economics or equivalent or proven work experience in the field
- Experience from financial industry and payments is a benefit
